On November 11th Italy celebrates San Martino. Tradition narrates that Martino di Tours (who became San Martino) after seeing a homeless man standing in a cold November rain, ripped his cape in half and gave him something to cover his shoulder and stay warm. Shortly after Martino came across a beggar and gave him the other half of his cape… Right away the sky opened up and the day got warmer. This story gave the name to our “Estate di San Martino” which in anglo saxon countries is called Indian Summer; those few warm days that arrive after the first seasonal frost, before fall starts turning into winter.
In these days the first barrels of young wine are opened, to celebrate the beginning of a season filled with hearty foods, ever crackling fireplaces and hunting dogs sitting on your feet. Come celebrate with us a wonderful evening of tradition, great food and superb wines curtesy of the Santa Margherita Group.
As always, given the nature of our events and the small size of our room, tickets are transferrable but not refundable. Please double check your calendar before pulling the trigger!
Our shop is not a restaurant but rather a communal dining room. We do not fire our orders based on your arrival time, we do not use heating lamps and we get sad when our food gets cold because a guest is late. Pretend you are coming to dinner at grandma… mine used to smack me if I was late for Sunday supper. We won’t get physical, we will just start without you around 7.15.
