Tequila Love Drop

This cocktail is a reminiscence of our past life in Los Angeles. Dry, spicy, with hints of fruit and Sunset Boulevard. We have prepared this drink several times to entertain friends, especially when we had a pizza oven and a pool; it is a fun happy, let me catch you off guard kind of drink. Now that we live in New York City Debi and I have mutated into more urban kind of drinkers and developed a taste for Whisky, Bourbon and the real classic cocktails that sometimes go enjoy in a few Hotel Bars around the city.

This recipe is great to make two drinks and get a private evening started, but you can also prepare a pitcher in advance by mixing all ingredients together but the tequila. Also, if you like smoky flavors, you might want to crush some smoked pepper in the sugar before you coat the rim of the glass… or just go full force and replace the Tequila with some good ol’ Mezcal!

Prep Time: 5 minutes

  • 2 parts fresh squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 part fresh squeezed orange juice
  • 1 part simple syrup
  • 1 part cranberry juice (bottled – no added sugar)
  • 3 parts Tequila (or Mezcal)
  • 2 slices Serrano Chili

1Take 2 slices Serrano chili and muddle them in the bottom of a martini shaker. Fill about 1/3 of the shaker with the mixture and add some ice. Shake it like you mean it!

2Makes 2 drinks per shaker. Obviously you can shake more at a time, just muddle more Serrano in it.

3Rub the rim of the glasses with a slice of orange and dip them in the sugar. Fill ’em up and drop in one more slice of sugar-coated Serrano.

4Drink and repeat!
